You can use your FrontSupport database on Palm™ OS based handhelds like Palm™, Handspring™, Sony CLIE™, Kyocera™, Samsung™, and Symbol™ using SmartList To Go Suite software published by Dataviz Inc. (http://www.dataviz.com). This article describes the components and detailed procedure for doing this.

Installing required software components

1. Download and install SmartList To Go Suite software components from Dataviz Inc’s website. You can either buy these products or download a trial version from http://www.dataviz.com.

a. SmartList To Go Suite is list and database tool software for handhelds. You can use SmartList To Go Suite to create, edit, manage, and customize relational database on your handheld. This software is required to view the FrontSupport database on the Handheld. You should install SmartList To Go Suite on your Handheld device.

b. SmartList To Go Sync Manager is a tool that exchanges and updates SmartList To Go database records with Microsoft Access database records. This component is required to transfer FrontSupport Access Database to Handheld. You should install SmartList To Go Suite on your Windows PC (i.e. your desktop or laptop).

Procedure for installing this software is part of the installation package. For detailed information, please visit Dataviz Inc’s website http://www.dataviz.com.

2. Download the template FrontSupport SmartList To Go database. SmartList To Go is the database on Handheld device that is managed by SmartList To Go database manager. Click here to download the template FrontSupport database.

Install this template FrontSupport template database to your Handheld using "Install" tool (one of the Palm softwares installed on your PC).

Syncing your FrontSupport database to Handheld using dbSync

1. Start the SmartList To Go Sync Manager program. Click "Add.." in the "SmartList To Go Sync Manager" dialog box.

2. "Database Type " Wizard page will popup:

a. Select Microsoft Access and click “Next”

b. Click “Browse” to select your FrontSupport database e.g. myfsdb.mdb.

c. Select “Table/Query” and select the required table that you wish to have it in Palm™ e.g. FS_ISSUES and click “Next”

d. Select the User for whom you want this database to be created and click “Next”

e. Select “New List”, give a name to the database e.g. myfsdb and click “Next”  (In case you wish to update the existing database on the Palm™, select “Smart List” and choose the database from the list, which you want to update.)

f. Select the “Desktop overwrites handheld” from the "Synchronization Mode" wizard page and click “Next”

g. By default, it maps all the fields of your MS Access database to the SmartList To Go database. In case you do not want some fields to be mapped, you can select each field and click “Clear”. This would clear the mapping. Finally, click “Finish” to complete the process.

Next time when you sync your Palm with desktop, your FrontSupport database would be transferred to your Palm.

Browsing the FrontSupport database on the handheld

After the HotSync is done, start the Smart List application on your handheld. You will see FrontSupport database (e.g. myfsdb) as one of the listed databases. Select this database and you will see all the support issues in your Palm™ handheld. Click on any issue from the list and you will see the details of a particular issue.
